Back to Basics: The 7 Core Issues of Adoption


This presentation will introduce the 7 Core Issues of Adoption (Roszia & Silverstein). Participants will learn how these core issues “show up” not only in adoption but also foster care and kinship care. Participants will learn practical strategies for assessing and providing support on each core issue.

Target Audience: Clinicians, Parents/Caregivers and Child Welfare professionals

FFTA members will receive an invitation to register for this webinar. 

Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to name and identify the 7 Core Issues of Adoption
2. Participants will be able to identify specific strategies to support grief work
3. Participants will be able to identify developmental tasks or life events that may be more challenging for those impacted by adoption or foster care

Presenter:
Jennifer Surratt, LCSW is the Director of Programs for C2Adopt, a Virginia-licensed child placing agency offering training, placement and supportive services to anyone whose life has been touched by adoption. Jennifer’s successful two-decade career in child welfare reflects her passion and commitment to transforming the lives of children and families through adoption. Her clinical areas of expertise include attachment, trauma and adoption. Jennifer is an invited speaker and trainer on these topics for parents and professionals.

Family Focused Treatment Association, #1659, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. FFTA maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 4/10/2019 - 4/10/2022. Social workers completing this course receive 1.25 general continuing education credits. Every attendee who attends the entire webinar will receive a certificate of attendance. In order to receive a certificate for ACE credit hours - you must attend the entire webinar and also complete an evaluation once the webinar is finished. You will be able to access your certificate online as soon as you complete the evaluation. Please check the map on the ASWB website for information on whether your state accepts ACE credit.
