Standards and Practices
FFTA’s Program Standards for Treatment Foster Care have helped
define the model and set parameters for the field. They are designed
to assist agencies in the development of quality Treatment Foster
Care services for children and families. Since its landmark publication
in 1991, the Standards have influenced child welfare and child behavioral
health practices and provided direction for public agencies that
develop programs and contracts for Treatment Foster Care. The Standards
have been referenced by researchers, and utilized by accrediting
bodies in defining Treatment Foster Care services and creating quality
assurance processes.
Last updated in 2004, the Standards reflects
a new understanding of key components of TFC while honoring the
time-tested wisdom of previous versions. Individuals are invited to recommend
updates to the Standards, for future consideration by the Standards
and Practices Committee.
