How to Gain Support from your Supervisor to Attend the FFTA Annual Conference
Do you need some help convincing your supervisor to send you to the FFTA Ann ual Conference this summer? Consider using the following guidelines to help win them over.
To accentuate the importance of your attendance at the conference, we suggest you provide a detailed, yet brief, request that explains how your conference participation will:
- Improve your agency's programs and services
- Provide cutting-edge information on the latest techniques and strategies
- Provide opportunities to network with other professionals from around the world and explore collaborative opportunities
- Enhance your professional development
- Allow you to share acquired knowledge with colleagues and foster parents when you return home
For your convenience, sample 'request' letters have been provided for clinical- and administrative-level staff members. Tailor these letters to create a convincing request to your supervisor. You may want to highlight workshops that are relevant to your job responsibilities. Also, remember to send a thank you letter to your supervisor when you return with a brief summary about what you learned - it will increase your chances for attending again next year.
We hope these sample letters will increase your ability to attend the FFTA 24th Annual Conference on Treatment Foster Care from August 1-4, 2010 in National Harbor, MD. We look forward to seeing you there!
